Journey through Transitions: Coaching, Trust, and Transformation

By: Ivan & Ashley Gusztak; FP Graduates and Coaches

Transitions are a natural part of our lives, happening all around us and deep within us. As coaches, we regularly encounter people in need of support as they navigate uncertain times and seek their way forward.

Our story is about how we've experienced transformation through the coaching we received, and ultimately led us to become transition coaches today!

Just three years ago, we found ourselves confused and stuck in our faith, life's purpose, and next steps. It was a challenging period where going back to where we were wasn't an option, and we needed help to see a way forward.

It was here that we experienced coaches who embraced trust and safety. Joel and Grace were their names. They coached us through the transition, helping us reconnect with God and navigate our fears and self-limiting beliefs.

The most valuable gift they gave us was the freedom to share and process our journey, both the ups and downs. Their presence was safe, and we were met with empathy and understanding. While they may have had answers to guide us and point us toward the future, their focus was to help us discover who we were becoming during this time. They coached us, not our problems.

We came to understand that these "in-between" times have a name: transition and God has a special purpose. God was doing some of His most profound work in our lives. No wonder it was confusing to navigate!

Today, we coach others who are stuck and confused in transition seasons. We often think about Joel and Grace and how we aspire to embody a coaching mindset that carries beyond coaching sessions.

This is what we do before each coaching session. We allocate time to center ourselves and align with what's truly crucial:

  • Prioritizing building trust and fostering a safe environment with our clients (ICF CC4)

  • Focusing on coaching the individual rather than just solving their problems. (In line with the FOCOS platform's core teachings)

  • Inviting God into our coaching sessions to lead and guide us beyond what we see and hear.

It's crucial to recognize that the impact of our presence, the secure space we create, and the trust we establish goes beyond what meets the eye. Transformation begins to take root when this space exists, and a breakthrough for a new ground will begin.
